The Money Circle® Newsletter

Rich Monthly Resources

For everyone who knows that money is not just about numbers. A rich monthly letter, rich resources and a rich live community gathering. Written by a former financial adviser, money psychology expert, podcast host, author and founder of The Money Panel®, Catherine Morgan.

Each Edition of the newsletter will include:

A seat at the monthly community calls and live taster sessions

Two live gatherings each month. Once a month we sit together on a community call, exploring a theme around money. Time to settle your nervous system and be in good company. And if you feel called to help others with their relationship with money, there's a monthly taster of how we train financial coaches and financial professionals.

Each month, one letter.

redheart  A story, or a transmission — something I've lived, noticed, or am sitting with. The felt part of the work.

thoughtbubble  A reflection question — one question to contemplate. The reflective part of the work

books  Currently resonating — what I'm reading, listening to, and returning to right now. The sharing part of the work.

brain  A Dopamine step — one small step to bring you deeper into your relationship with money. The practical part of the work.

Hi, I'm Catherine Morgan

I trained as a financial adviser at 18 and spent the best part of two decades inside financial services. On the high street, in the bank, often the only woman on my team. Giving sound financial advice to everybody else, while living in my overdraft every single month. Around £30,000 of debt, on an adviser's salary, knowing exactly what good financial behaviour looked like and not following any of it myself. Debt felt familiar. It felt safe. It made no logical sense at all, and that, I came to understand, was rather the point.

Then, in October 2013, everything changed. My youngest son, Thomas, was five weeks old when he became seriously ill, very suddenly, with bacterial meningitis and sepsis. We very nearly lost him. We spent two weeks in hospital, and there was one word the doctors kept using that I couldn't get out of my head. Because we got him in quickly, he is now a happy, cheeky boy. But something in me had moved, and it didn't move back.

When I returned to the bank after maternity leave, I felt a deep disconnection I couldn't name at first. I had clients coming in who didn't need a product. They needed help with divorce, with grief, with loss. And I noticed they carried the same feeling I'd had in that hospital — spoken to in a language they didn't understand, too ashamed to ask the questions that actually mattered. The jargon of financial services was doing to them what the jargon of medicine had done to me.

So I left. I went looking for a different way to do this work, one that started with the human being rather than the product. What I learned is that people don't change because we tell them what to do. They change when they feel safe. When they feel seen. When they feel worthy. You can know everything there is to know about money and still not make the decisions that serve you, because money is emotional, and it is bound up with our sense of identity and our sense of enoughness.

Since then I've helped thousands of people around the world transform their relationship with money, and trained hundreds of coaches and financial professionals through the Money Narratives Clearing® Framework — for people who feel called to support clients with money while tending to their own relationship with it too.

This taster is where you get to experience that work for yourself, before you decide anything.
