Real Money Stories: The Impact of Trauma on Money Relationships

Lynn Beattie is a personal finance expert, the founder of the Mrs Mummypenny blog, author of The Money Guide to Transform Your Life, and The Mrs Mummypenny Talks podcast.

In this interview she shares with us her personal money story of clearing £16k debt in just 2 years. We discuss the impact that trauma has on your relationship with money, and the practical and emotional steps Lynn took to get out of debt.

Often when we think of trauma, we think of big life events. But in reality, trauma can be small, sometime seemingly insignificant, events throughout your life. For example if your parents or teachers always pushed you, it could be that you experienced several ‘small’ traumas which lead you to the belief that you’re not good enough.

Trauma can:

  • Impact our relationship with money
  • Lower our self esteem
  • Trigger financial PTSD

In this episode Lynn shares some really useful insights into what she did to clear £16k debt in 2 years, the ways in which she could see she sabotaged herself, running a business, and her relationship with money now.

Is this the best bank account ever?
